The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, has condemned in strong terms bandits attack on Pinau village in Mavo Chiefdom of Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Saga Gist recalls that 10 people were killed and many others injured in the aforementioned community on Sunday evening.
The Deputy Speaker described the attack which resulted in the death of innocent citizens with several others injured as ‘inhuman, senseless and unwarranted’ saying ‘the attackers must be brought to book.’
Wase in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Muhammad Puma, described the killing as “painful and highly regrettable”, especially at this period when the people are striving hard to earn their means of livelihood, urging the people of Wase to remain calm, peaceful, law abiding.
“My sympathies are with the families who lost their loved ones in this callous act. These senseless killings are painful and highly condemnable. I pray that the Almighty God to accept the souls of all those who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident. ”
He also urged the citizens to continue to support measures put in place by the Federal and the state government in bringing these ugly attacks under control.
Also, the Senator representing Plateau South, Nora Dadu’ut, has condemned the attack on Pinau village in Mavo chiefdom of Wase LGA, describing the ugly development as “unfortunate”, saying the government has been doing all it could to maintain peace in the State.
She called on security agents to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to book .
“I call on security operatives to go after those attacking innocent villagers and they should be made to pay for their heinous actions.”
Senator Dadu’ut commended Governor Simon Lalong for his peacebuilding efforts and called on citizens of Plateau south to stay peaceful with one another.
Also reacting, Chairman Wase Jukun Youths Development Association (WAJYODA), Ibrahim Umar Bako, said the incident happened on Sunday evening.
Bako said, “Gunmen stormed the village and started shooting sporadically. This created so much tension in the community and the entire Wase local government council.
“We are still trying to ascertain the actual number of people that died, those injured and property destroyed, I will let you know once we have the full details”, he maintained.
When contacted, the Spokesman of State Police Command, ASP Ubah Ogaba, said, “We are aware of the incident, but as we speak, I cannot give you any details as investigation is ongoing”
“Please I will get across to you once I have the details at my disposal”, he maintained.
Ogaba said calm has been restored in the affected community and personnel are on ground.
