Nigeria vs Tunisia: My preferred position is number 10 - Iwobi tells Eguavoen

Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi has told the team coach, Austin Eguavoen his preferred position.

Iwobi started his first game for Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon against Guinea Bissau with his best performance coming when Kelechi Iheanacho was subbed off.

Iwobi assumed the role of the playmaker when Iheanacho, who had been playing the role of the No.10, was substituted.

Super Eagles legend, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, had after the game against Guinea-Bissau, criticized Eguavoen for not fixing Iwobi and Iheanacho in their right positions.

Okocha pointed out that Eguavoen is not playing his nephew, Iwobi, in his most preferred position, which is the No.10.

And speaking to reporters on Thursday, Iwobi said, “My preferred position is number 10 but, however, wherever I’m told to play, I’ll give my best.”

“Of course, it is an honour to represent my country and to get maximum points, so I’m happy with the performances but we still have a long way to go.

“We use this as confidence and motivation for the next game,” Iwobi said at the end of the Super Eagles recovery workout on Thursday.

The Super Eagles’ next game in the tournament is against Tunisia in the round of 16.
