Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Chairman of the Southwest Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ondo State, has described Oba Lamidi Adeyemi’s demise as a major blow to the Oyo Kingdom, Yoruba race, and the country as a whole.
According to Akeredolu, the news of the renowned monarch’s death came as a rude shock.
The governor noted that the departed monarch was a rallying point with the southwest area and beyond, noting that he did not only live for the prosperity of Oyo kingdom but also for the entire Yoruba race and the country at large.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, Akeredolu, said a quintessential traditional ruler, as well as custodian of the Yoruba culture, had been lost.
The late Alaafin’s contributions to the development and advancement of the country and Yoruba Land, according to Akeredolu, were unquantifiable in all ramifications.
“He was a great pillar. A great giant who did not only represent our cultural values but also preserved and promoted Yoruba culture. He was a repository of knowledge.
The governor maintained that with over five decades on the throne of his forefathers, Oba Lamidi reign was the most remarkable for the entire Oyo Kingdom, particularly that he was a symbol of Yoruba Unity.
Akeredolu added that the efforts of the late Alafin toward the unity and progress of the Yoruba can not be forgotten in a hurry.
“His commitment toward ensuring the unity of the Yoruba can not be forgotten in a hurry. He lived a life invariably imbued with candour and resplendence. He was royal to the end.”
