2023: Miscreants will take over if technocrats, intellectuals shun politics – Ibadan Chief, Adegoke

An Ibadan Chief, Oloye Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke has advised people of integrity such as professionals, academics and technocrats not to shy away from politics.

Adegoke who doubles as the Aare-Onibon Balogun of Ibadan land noted the need for people who have excelled in their chosen fields to join politics to prevent those he described as miscreants and hoodlums from taking over the leadership of the country.

The next general elections coming in 2023 will usher in a new crop of leaders from the national to the state levels.

However, Adegoke believes hoodlums will take over the process and leadership of the country if people of integrity distance themselves from politics.

Adegoke who is a senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) advised professionals, academia and technocrats to take over in 2023.

The APC chieftain made the comments on Sunday while speaking on a radio programme on Fresh FM 105.9 Ibadan christened ‘Agbami Oselu’.

Adegoke who said the Nigerian 1999 constitution (as amended in 2011) is faulty, explained that Nigeria is suffering from leadership and followership problems.

He said, “Hoodlums will be in power if people of integrity shun politics. There will be scarcity in the country. There will be a shortage of food, there will be inflation if the hoodlums take over because there is this saying that you cannot give what you don’t have.

“Oyo south determines who becomes governor. Any political party that cannot win Oyo south will not win the governorship election. If you deliver Oyo South, you can deliver the state. The constitution we are using, some people sat down in their rooms and wrote it. So, it is faulty, we need to review it.

“There are no resources that we don’t have in this country but we have a leadership problem. We need leaders that can tap these resources.

“Look at the quality of leaders we have at the state house of assembly or at the local government level, you can’t give what you don’t have. Leadership is not about the presidency alone, what about the state or local government.

“If we don’t participate in politics, it is the miscreants and the hoodlums that will be ruling us and we cannot complain. We are not putting a round peg in a round hole. There is a problem of leadership and followership”.
