EPL: Again, Paul Merson names player to win Golden Boot this season

Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, has named the player to win the English Premier League Golden Boot next season.

The gong is given to the player with the highest goal at the end of the season.

Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Tottenham’s Son Heung-min shared the award last season after scoring 23 goals each.

And following Liverpool’s Community Shield triumph over Manchester City, people started looking the way of Reds’ new striker, Darwin Nunez for the award.

Nuñez grabbed a crucial late goal for Liverpool to cement his sides’ 3-1 win.

But both Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Liverpool’s Nuñez are not Merson’s choice.

Merson, who has always tipped Harry Kane for the award, believes that the presence of the likes of Haaland, Nuñez, Jesus Gabriel, among other top strikers, won’t stop Kane from claiming the award.

Merson told Daily Star that Kane will continue to be English football’s most prolific striker this term.

The former Arsenal man revealed that Kane is his ‘favourite for the golden boot, labelling him the ‘benchmark for Erling Haaland and Darwin Nuñez.’

Merson wrote: “You win the Golden Boot by scoring against the bottom-half teams, not by scoring 15 goals against the top-four sides.”
