Patients rushed out as fire razes property worth millions of naira at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital


 

Property worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of a fire incident that broke out at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching hospital, Ogbomoso in Oyo State.

Saga Gist reports that the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

Our correspondent gathered from sources within the hospital that the fire gutted the Emergency and Accident Unit of the hospital.

It was learnt that some office equipment, books, engines, electronic gadgets, roof and ceilings worth millions of naira were razed.

It was learnt that the fire outbreak started at about 5am in a paediatrics consultant's office.

A source within the hospital said that the fire incident is suspected to have started from electric spark.

It was learnt that about 16 patients had to be quickly rushed out of the ward.

Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Omotayo Ogunleye confirmed the incident on Saturday.

Ogunleye in a telephone conversation with newsmen however said that normal activities have resumed in the hospital.

He said, “Yes it is true. It is a minor incident. But, normal activities have resumed in the hospital.”
