2019: MASSOB reacts to emergence of Peter Obi as Atiku’s running mate


The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, on Saturday applauded the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, for picking former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi as his running mate.

The group made this known in a statement signed by its national leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu and issued to journalists in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State.

He stated that the selection of Peter Obi as a Atiku’s running mate was a welcome development for Igbos.

He revealed that MASSOB was still consulting concerning the forthcoming 2019 general elections and would soon make known their position soon.

“The leadership of MASSOB congratulates Mr. Peter Obi on his emergence as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.

“Though, MASSOB does not believe in the Nigeria project or being partisan in Nigeria politics, we acknowledge the acceptance of Peter Obi by the millions of Nigeria populace through the eruption of joyous celebration that greeted his selection as Vice Presidential candidate.

“MASSOB, as a major stakeholder in Igbo affairs, we shall not derail any national interest that will benefit Ndigbo in Nigeria. We’re still consulting and discussing with our Diaspora groups and other pro-Biafra groups concerning our final position on next year general elections.”

The group insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari must honour MASSOB demand for referendum otherwise he (Buhari) will be the last President of Nigeria.

“Remember, MASSOB have declared that President Muhammedu Buhari will be the last president of Nigeria. We still believe that 2019 political crisis and our demand for referendum will usher in Biafra, Oduduwa and Arewa nations,” he added.
