Family pays N2 million as kidnappers free Ondo medical doctor

One of the medical personnel of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owo in Ondo State, who was among the three victims kidnapped on Tuesday, has been freed.

It was gathered that the victim was released by her abductors in the early hours of Thursday due to her pregnancy status, which was said to have been discovered by the kidnappers.

Saga Gist had reported the abduction of three medical workers by kidnappers on the Emure-Ile axis of the busy Akure-Owo expressway, with the subsequent demand of N50 million ransom by the kidnappers.

A source at FMC where the victim is working disclosed that the doctor who has been identified only as Mrs Ayeku was released after her family paid N2 million ransom, adding that she was currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Akure, the Ondo State Capital.

“She was freed due to her state of condition but not until her family paid the sum of N2 million as ransom.

“She is currently receiving treatment in one of the hospitals in the state capital and I’m aware the female doctor is doing fine,” the source said.

Confirming the release of the doctor, the state Police spokesperson, Femi Joseph stated that she was released in the early hours of Thursday morning along Owo road.

He also maintained that effort was still on towards rescuing the other victims still in the kidnappers’ captivity.

“Yes, one the victims was released today. She was freed during the midnight when they noticed that the police was close to them (kidnappers).

“We have received her, and she is currently attending to treament in the hospital due to the trauma that she went through in the hand of the hoodlums.

“But let me assure you that we shall not relent in arresting the perpetrator of this crime and we will bring them to book, so they can face justice.

“The Ondo Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju, has set up a rescue team at ensuring that others still in captivity are rescue unhurt,” the PPRO stated.
