Coronavirus: Wike’s lockdowns, restriction orders ‘audio vibes’ – APC

The All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers state has described Governor Nyesom Wike’s actions on COVID-19 as audio vibes especially that the state has recorded its first case of the virus.
Governor Wike in a statewide broadcast Wednesday closed down all air, sea and land borders, restricting activities in places of worship, pubs, cinemas and markets.
But speaking to the media in Port Harcourt; the former Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Chris Finebone advised Wike to take further steps in tackling the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
Finebone said despite assurances received from Governor Wike, the State Commissioner for Health is yet to inform the public if Rivers State has what it takes to contain spread of the Virus or not.
He expressed concerns that all that have been heard and seen were emergency numbers and lockdowns, adding that they are not enough to assuage the fears of residents as observed in Lagos.
Finebone maintained that while it will be unfair to politicize the pandemic in the state, the APC would frown at a situation where the government is announcing lockdown of the state for the purpose of mere political theatricals.
“Despite the assurances received by the State government-backed channels that the Rivers state Commissioner for Health will make public the level of preparedness and whether the state has the capacity to test and treat COVID-19. The day is long-spent and there has been no such briefing from the state government.
“All we have seen are emergency numbers and lockdowns. Those alone are not enough.
“Just recently Delta State alone displayed 19 Ventilators recently acquired to tackle this menace. So, as some other states are undertaking different measures in readiness for this scourge.
“Whereas some us are committed not to politicize this pandemic in the state however, we would frown at a situation where the Governor is announcing lockdowns of the state for the purpose of mere political theatrics and or histrionics.
“Rivers people and indeed residents of Rivers state would like to know the level of preparedness and capacity of the state to tackle the pandemic in the state beyond mere audio vibes,” Finebone said.
