The Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the Ogun State Government has continued to shrink.

A report published in April by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed that Ogun State generated a sum of N50,749,595,850.07 in the year 2020.

However, the total IGR realized by the state in 2019 was said to be N70,922,590,495.89, meaning there was a reduction of N20,172,994,645.96 in what the state generates in 2020.

As of 2018, Saga Gist recalls that the Gateway State was able to get N84.5 billion, making the first three in ranking by the full-year IGR share total, with Lagos and Rivers States.

With the further decline in IGR, Ogun now comes sixth in ranking behind Lagos (N418,988,581,897.11); Rivers (N117,189,729,245.29); Federal Capital Territory (N92,059,700,897.42); Delta (59,732,882,882,662.97) and Kaduna (N50,768,523,407.34).

From the NBS report, Ogun, it was gathered, generated N14,615,400,746.23 in the first quarter of 2020; N9,069,046,778.51 in the second quarter; N14,050,107,657.94 in the third quarter and a sum of N13,015,040,667.39 in the last quarter of the year.

Saga Gist reports that the COVID-19 lockdown, states like Kebbi, Ebonyi, Oyo, Borno, Katsina, Taraba, Gombe, Kaduna, Lagos, Kogi, Plateau, Zamfara, Nasarawa, Osun, Bauchi, Imo, Kogi, Ekiti and FCT recorded a growth in their internal revenues in 2020.

However, there was a reduction in the 2020 IGR of Ogun, Benue, Sokoto, Kwara, Jigawa, Cross River, Enugu, Kano, Ondo, Niger, Rivers, Adamawa, Bayelsa, Yobe, Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibom and Abia States.
