Man arraigned for allegedly setting girlfriend property on fire


A 38-year-old man, Ismaila Lawal was on Thursday arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrate Court for allegedly setting his girlfriend’s lover’s motorcycle on fire.

The accused person allegedly committed the offence on June 6, 2021, around 2.25 am at Adejokun Compound Ilare in Ile-Ife.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused person broke into the house of Lawal Abdullahi with intent to commit a felony therein.

He added that the accused person committed arson by setting Abdullahi’s Boxer Motorcycle on fire.

The offence committed contravened Sections 411 and 444 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Okon Wonder, applied for the bail of his client in the most liberal terms.

Magistrate Adedotun Ayeni granted the accused person bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.

The case was adjourned till July 20, 2021, for hearing.
