Niger govt bans protests over insecurity

The Niger State Government has announced a ban on demonstrations in the state.

Ahmed Matane, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), issued the directive on Saturday.

The SSG said the order, which followed plans by groups to protest against insecurity, is with immediate effect.

“The decision to ban all forms of processions was as a result of the security situation in the state”, he said.

Matane added that security agencies have been directed to deal with persons and organizations that violate the order.

The official advised members of the public to be law-abiding and peaceful.
