The Management National Examination Council, NECO, has urged staff of the council to remain calm and pray for soul of late Chief Executive Officer, CEO, and Registrar, Professor Godswill Obioma.

During a visit to the council’s Headquarters at the outskirts of Minna, the capital of Niger State, the staff were seen moving around in sober mood over the news of the demise of their CEO.

They expressed shock and saddened over the news of his death which has gone viral all the over country and across the world.

Some of them described him as an easy-going person and hard working head of the council whose stay as the head of NECO was short-lived.

According to them, “We received the news of the sudden death of our CEO with a rude shock to us. We were waiting to see him resume office only to hear that he is died. It’s a painful loss to us.”

One of them said, “His death was a shock not only to me but the whole NECO family. Even though, he was enmeshed in some problems in the council that made some people not to like him, we will still miss him. We pray that his soul rests in peace.”

In a Circular issued by the Director, Human Resource Management, Mr. Mustapha K. Abdul and made available to newsmen by Azeez Sani, Head, Information and Public Relations Division in Minna on Tuesday, had urged the staff to pray for the soul of the late Registrar/Chief Executive, National Examinations Council (NECO) Prof. Obioma who died at the age of 67.

Abdul quoted family sources as saying that Prof. Obioma died on 31st May, 2021 after a brief illness.

The source of his death has, however, remained a controversy as the son, Prince Godswill Obioma, claimed the father passed on to glory after a brief illness in his residence, his wife Elizabeth Obioma announced that he was assassinated in his residence

The circular said Prof. Obioma was born on 12th December, 1953 and hails from Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

He was appointed Registrar of NECO on 14th May, 2020 by President Muhammadu Buhari. A Professor of Educational Measurement and Evaluation, late Prof. Obioma was a former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).

Until his appointment as Registrar of NECO, Prof. Obioma was the Ebonyi State ResidentElectoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The late Registrar is survived by his wife and children.
