Reactions trail suspension of Zamfara APC ward congress

The order by a Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, restraining the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) from conducting its ward congress has drawn many reactions across the state.

According to some of the APC members who spoke in Gusau, the state capital, the court order helped in preventing a political crisis that would have occurred during the congress.

A public commentator, Alhaji Ahmed Bakare, said the truth remained that since Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle defected to the APC, there have been cracks on the wall of the party in the state.

He said that former Governor Abdul Aziz Yari and Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa are leading one faction while Governor Matawalle has his own faction, saying that the two factions are at war over who controls the soul of the party in the state.

Alhaji Bakare noted that Yari did not acknowledge the state caretaker committee inaugurated by the national headquarters of the party.

“Even if the ward congress was allowed to be held in Zamfara State, it would have been a showdown for political supremacy between Governor Matawalle and former Governor Yari,” he said.

Recall that since Matawalle defected to the party, Yari has never accepted him as the leader even though the national headquarters of the party had handed over the party’s flag to the Governor, he claimed that he still remains the leader of the party in the state.

The former Governor explained that the dissolution of the leadership of the party in the state was illegal, stressing that he recognizes the leadership of the party in the state led by Ambassador Lawali Liman Kaura and not the one constituted by the national headquarters of the party.

According to him, he challenged the National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni in Kaduna, telling him that the dissolution was unacceptable.
