Former Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State; a three-time governorship candidate, Gboyega Isiaka and the Lagos West Senator, Solomon Adeola have all expressed sadness over the death of the former Sole Administrator in Ekiti State, Gen. Tunji Olurin (rtd).

Olurin died on Saturday morning at the age of 76.

In a statement he signed personally, Daniel said he received the news of Olurin’s death with shock.

Daniel, who described Olurin as an eminent statesman and disciplined officer, recalled the “sound support towards” his move to contest the 2003 governorship election in Ogun, saying “he was one of the earliest persons consulted and he gave his support.”

Daniel said Olurin “faithfully served as the Founding Chancellor of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) when he was appointed by his administration.

He expressed comfort that the late General had gone to rest having played his part on earth, saying his prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”

On his part, Isiaka maintained that the late General’s life was that of service to humanity.

He said the deceased was a consummate military officer, whose intervention in crucial national assignments, left indelible landmarks.

“Ogun West has just been deprived of one of its illustrious and mortal icons; coming at a season when his fatherly advice would be needed in navigating a new national democratic order that is so needed at this time.

Isiaka thanked God for the life of Olurin, saying he will sorely be missed with all that he represented.

Also, Senator Adeola, while expressing sadness at the demise of the former Sole Administrator, described his passing as a huge loss, not only to his people in Ilaro, Yewa and Ogun State but to Nigeria and the international community.

“General Olurin was a true patriot, a nationalist that sacrificed much not only for the unity of Nigeria but peace and security in the West African sub-region and the Africa continent. His expertise in security and administration will be sorely missed” the senator stated.

Adeola prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the retired general, asking God to give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
