EPL: Chelsea, Man United lose 3 key players in defeats to Man City, Aston Villa

 

Three players from Chelsea and Manchester United fell to injuries on Saturday as both clubs record their first defeats in the Premier League this season.

For Chelsea, it was their young defender Reece James that was taken off midway through the first half of the match against Manchester City due to injury while Manchester United had their first-choice left-back Luke Shaw and captain Harry Maguire down with various degrees of injuries on Saturday

Now, the players, all England internationals look set to miss their World Cup qualifying matches during the October international break

Manchester United fell 1-0 to Aston Villa at Old Trafford while Manchester City finally had a bragging right over Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side.

Shaw exited the action against Aston Villa in the first half with a knock while Maguire limped off with what appeared to be a calf issue just after the hour mark.

Manchester United and Chelsea’s next fixtures are in the Champions League games on Wednesday.

United were defeated in their first Champions League group game against Young Boys and now hope to bounce back against Villarreal at Old Trafford on September 29.

Chelsea on the other hand beat Zenit St. Petersburg 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in their first group match and will hope to continue their fine form in the competition away to Juventus.
