The woman kidnapped from her residence at Birshin Fulani community on the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis has been released by her abductors after her husband paid a ransom of N1.5million.
The kidnapped mother of three, Mrs Rukayyat Odedoyin, was kidnapped in the early hours of Friday, 17th September, 2021, while her children were locked up in the house by her abductors who neighbours said were about 10 in number.
After spending 10 days in the den of kidnappers, Odedoyin finally breathed air of freedom as her husband, Engineer Surajudden Odedoyin, informed journalists that she was released Monday morning after the payment of ransom of N1.5 million.
“I received her this (Monday) morning after the sum of N1.5 million ransom was paid to the kidnappers. She is currently with me,” the husband said.
Engineer Odedoyin added that his released wife is psychologically traumatised by her experience in the hands of the kidnappers, adding that, “I will take her to the hospital for a medical check-up.
“It was a difficult moment for her throughout the period of her captivity.
“She was sleeping in the bush under humiliating conditions because of the weather. Either it was raining or sunny, she was kept outside throughout her stay with the kidnappers.”
The visibly distraught husband explained that his wife’s kidnapping was a horrifying moment in his life but, however, expressed happiness that despite the trauma that came with her kidnapping, she was back home with him, their children and other loved ones.
While expressing gratitude to God for making it possible for his wife to return alive, Odedoyin said the experience and the resultant trauma were difficult for him to describe.
According to him, “it was very difficult to even explain or describe how horrifying it was for me and the family. But we give glory to God now that she is back with us.”
Attempts made to get the reaction of the police were unsuccessful as the state police command spokesman, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, neither picked calls nor responded to SMS sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
Saga Gist reports that on the day the woman was kidnapped, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, told journalists at a briefing in Bauchi that details of the kidnapping were still very sketchy.
Birshin Fulani was recently in the news as kidnappers turned the heat on the sleepy community, killing two persons, including the Chief Engineer of The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Engineer Garba Abubakar and kidnapped some other residents.
The incessant attacks on the community-led some residents to block the Bauchi-Dass road to protest the spate of insecurity in the community they noted to be peaceful.
Others accused political office holders, including the state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, of neglecting them, noting that attacks on the community were quite worrisome.
They then called on security agencies and other stakeholders to come to their rescue with a view to restoring peace to the community.
