The crisis facing the Independent Petroleum Markers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in Adamawa State has persisted despite a move made to fix it.
A factional leader of the association on Friday insisted that a caretaker committee constituted on Thursday for the association will not stand.
Factional chairman of the association in the state, Dahiru Buba, told newsmen in Yola Friday that he remained the state chairman and nobody could remove him till his term falls due in two years.
“I heard that yesterday (Thursday), some fifth columnists came to Yola and conducted what can only pass as a child’s play,” Buba said.
The National Secretary of IPMAN, Danladi Pasali had led some other national executives of the association to Yola on Thursday to inaugurate a caretaker committee to lead the association in the state till an election is held to constitute a permanent Exco.
By the act of Thursday, the national leadership of IPMAN had dissolved the two factions in the state.
Speaking during the Thursday inauguration, Danladi Pasali had said the action was based on the constitution of the association to restore peace and unity among members in Yola Depot covering Adamawa and Taraba.
He said Adamawa was the only state in the country with two factions and said, “The warring factions in Adamawa have been officially dissolved and the caretaker committee set up to reconcile the two factions to bring peace in Yola Depot.
“Out of the 36 states in the country, Adamawa was the only state where we had two factions and the national body was disturbed. It is time to dissolve the factions and have a peace committee to harmonize and bring all marketers together.”
Pasali had explained that to ensure justice and fairness, members of the committee were drawn from the two factions and assured that with the caretaker committee, peace would be restored in the depot.
The caretaker committee had as chairman Gidado Hamman-Gari who, during the swearing-in of his committee on Thursday, solicited the cooperation of the marketers for the success of the association.
On his part, however, factional chairman Dahiru Buba insisted on Friday that he remains IPMAN chairman in Adamawa, swearing that he would deploy all resources to challenge the ‘charade’ called a caretaker committee.
