The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Ondo State Chapter on Friday, raised the alarm over the mass exodus of medical doctor from the state’s civil service.
While expressing concern over the development, the association lamented that the situation caused by the poor condition of service in the state which doctors had been subjected to.
Disclosing this at a press conference to herald the 2021 Physicians’ Weeks, the State Chairman of NMA, Dr Stella Adegbehinbe said the brain-drain of their colleagues from the state will have adverse effect on the health care of the state if something urgent is not done.
According to the NMA Chairman who implored Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to urgently attend to find solution to the issue by making that the work environment conducive with necessary equipment, urged the state government to embark on massive employment of health personnel in secondary and tertiary healthcare levels in the state.
Adegbehinbe added that with the situation, there are now fewer doctors and nurses to attend to an ever-increasing population across the 18 local government areas of the states.
“The crises in the state health sector have been worsening by the irregular percentage of salaries being paid and the hostile work environment.
“This has resulted in the withdrawal of services at different times and a mass exodus of doctors and other health care workers.”
