Students from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State have gone on the rampage in protest over the death of an undergraduate and final year student of the Foreign Language Department, Aishat Adesina.
Information reveals that the student gave up the ghost at a private hospital in Ile-Ife.
The protesting students alleged that Miss Adesina died as a result of negligence on the part of the institution’s health workers.
Sources from the campus revealed that she was rushed to the school’s medical facility on Thursday by her friends because she had earlier complained of shortness of breath to them.
On getting to the clinic, she was reportedly administered with malaria drugs and ulcer medication based on her complaints.
She was later taken to Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Ile-Ife without the necessary referral letter from the OAU Health Centre and she was pronounced dead at the probate hospital.
Students also alleged that she had allegedly given up the ghost at the OAU Health Centre which made them pretend in order for an ambulance not to be released for the conveyance of her corpse.
This according to the students account made come out en-masse to protest the negligence on the part of the Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede led OAU management.
This negligence on the part of the management and health workers have cost the life of the deceased, the students claimed.
Efforts to reach the university Public Relations Officer, Olanrewaju Abiodun proved abortive as his phone was not connecting as at press time.
The university in recent months has had to deal with a backlog of controversies.
Some months back, students of the institution were captured in a vital photograph fetching water from nearby drains as water shortage hit the student hostels and also two students committed suicide due to inability to meet up with the academic requirements of the school.
Also, some months back, some female students had alleged that commercial motorcyclists who were indigenes of Ile-Ife were sexually molesting them, a development which was debunked by the school management.
