Osun Assembly charges LG Service Commission on boundary disputes

The Osun State House of Assembly has charged the Osun State Local Government Service Commission to sort out all boundary disputes in the state in earnest in order to promote peace and inter-communal harmony.

The Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Taiwo Adebayo Olodo gave this charge during the ongoing budget defence at the State House of Assembly in Osogbo.

Olodo noted that this became necessary as there are several land and boundaries disputes in the various local governments across the state which call for attention and intervention.

While commending the commission for their impact in handling boundary disputes in the state, he also urged the ministries, departments and agencies of government to come for pre-budget meeting with the House Committee in order to sort out some grey areas of the budget.

He noted that the House of Assembly was carrying out the exercise in accordance with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution without fear or favour.

“We need to see MDAs sort some grey areas out before presenting their budget.

“The House of Assembly have the constitutional mandate to check MDAs and they need to cooperate with the committee,” he added.

He advised MDAs to improve on their Internally Generated Revenue to the government purse.

In his response, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Barrister Olufemi Akande explained that the State Government has just inaugurated a Commission headed by Justice Oluborode to settle internal boundary crisis within the state.

He added that the National Boundary Commission is in charge of states boundary dispute affairs.
