No fewer than 50 unregistered vehicles with no tinted permits have been impounded by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps.

The vehicles were impounded during the stop-and-search and vehicle identification exercise embarked upon by operatives of the corps in the state.

The Commander of the Corps, Adetunji Adeleye disclosed this during a press briefing at the corps headquarters in Akure.

He said the move became imperative in order to prevent planned attacks by bandits and some criminals in the state.

The corps on Monday revealed that its operatives would commence the exercise following intelligence reports of plans to attack the state during yuletide by criminals.

While admonishing those castigating the motive of the corps, Adeleye emphasised that no amount of blackmail will prevent its personnel from ensuring maximum security of the state.

While emphasising that the operation was being done in collaboration with other security agencies, Adeleye who dispelled claims in some quarters that the corps’ operatives were involved in searching mobile phones of motorists, said the personnel were only carrying out search in suspicious tinted vehicles and checking of police tinted permit.

“We received an intelligence report from credible quarters that bandits and criminals are trying to carry out nefarious activities in the state. We hinted the general public about this two weeks ago to be very vigilant. This information became more credible when we heard that some of the places mentioned in the intelligence report, armed robbers had actually struck. One in Osun and one in Ekiti State.

“Virtually, more than 90 percent of criminal activities in the state are been perpetrated with the use of unregistered, covered and tinted vehicles. Again, the majority of these criminal activities are also being carried out using Okada, especially in the evenings.

“To this end, the state government directed all security agencies in the state to collaborate and work together to ensure that after the deadline, whoever uses a dark tinted glass would carry a police permit. Furthermore, the use of unregistered vehicles on roads which makes it difficult to track down criminals was also banned.
