Major General OJ Akpor of the Nigerian Army (NA) has been appointed as the new Director of Defence Information (DDI).
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations made this known in a statement on Tuesday.
Akpor was named among the Generals assigned by Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya.
He succeeds Major General BO Sawyer, the ex-DDI who assumed the role in July 2021 from previous position as Commandant, Nigerian Army Armoured School.
The DDI operates from the Defence Headquarters in Abuja and authorized to speak for all the Air Force, Army and Navy.
Until his promotion to Major General and new appointment, Akpor was the Director, Directorate of Military Training (DMT).
The DMT is headed by a Director of a Brigadier General rank who is answerable to the Commandant, a Major General.
The unit, under the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), trains cadets in military subjects to equip them with skills and values before commissioning as Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) officers.
