UCL: That’s red card – Arsenal legend, Martin Keown reacts to dangerous tackle on Super Eagles star

Arsenal legend, Martin Keown, has insisted the referee should have sent off Adrien Rabiot, following a dangerous tackle on Super Eagles’ Samuel Chukwueze during Villarreal’s Champions League last 8 clash with Juventus on Tuesday.

The Juventus midfielder launched a horror tackle on the Nigeria international during the game at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

He raised high studs that went straight into the knee of Chukwueze but referee Daniel Siebert did not see it as a serious offence.

“I think that’s a red, he’s just gone in with no intent to win the ball,” Keown told BT Sport.

“He’s just gone in to take his opponent out, it’s high, reckless, no regard for his opponent.”

It is believed that Rabiot escaped being sent off for the reckless challenge because the incident was not checked by VAR.

First leg of the last sixteen game between Villarreal and Juventus ended 1-1 and the second leg comes up in three weeks time.
