Zamfara Assembly threatens to declare PDP lawmaker’s seat vacant

Hon. Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma, a member representing Maru North in Zamfara State House of Assembly, has vowed that if after 180 days, the only surviving PDP member, Hon. Saleh Zurmi failed to present himself at the House of Assembly, he would be suspended.

The lawmaker told newsmen on Saturday that the principles guiding legislative engagements are clear and that the absconded lawmaker cannot prevent Zurmi people from having representation in the House of Assembly.

“The State House of Assembly would not relent in applying appropriate measures to discipline him because he absconded without permission,” Kanoma added.

He said that the allegations that the Governor of Zamfara was threatening the life of the lawmaker was false.

“Hon. Salihu Zurmi should come out from where he is hiding and answer queries. He should not be calling names or be blaming people for what he has caused for himself,” he added.

Saleh Zurmi had absconded during the controversial impeachment of Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau as the Deputy Governor.

Some lawmakers were earlier accused of collecting thousands of dollars to vote against the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor.
