Police warn political parties against campaigning ahead of time in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has warned leaders of all political parties in the state to desist from campaigning ahead of time.

The Command via its Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, on Thursday handed down the warning.

“It has come to the attention of Yobe State Police Command that some leaders of political parties in the state hide under the cover of ”thank you visit” to delegates on their nomination during the just concluded party primaries to commence political activities in utter disregard to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations and guidelines on electioneering campaign”, the statement read.

It is against this background that the Command noted that it will not hesitate to deal with anyone caught flouting the 2022 Electoral Act.

According to the statement, the state Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, has emplaced all the Command’s assets to monitor the activities of political parties and deal with the violators.

“The Command wishes to assure the general public of hitch free and transparent 2023 general elections”, it assured.
