EPL: Rio Ferdinand reacts as Ten Hag drops Man United star from his plan

Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has lauded manager Erik ten Hag for dropping a player for being late to team meetings, saying it is precisely the kind of ruthlessness he has been ‘calling for’ at the club.

Ten Hag introduced a number of new rules after his appointment as Man United manager, one of which was that players late to training or meetings would be dropped.

The former Ajax coach was able to make use of the new regulations during Man United’s pre-season tour of Australia as he dropped an unnamed player who twice turned up late to a team meeting.

And reacting to the development, Ferdinand told the Daily Mirror, “And the discipline, I read an article about a player being dropped for a couple of games – completely from the squad – because of punctuality problems.

“Things like that are elements that I have been calling for and wanting to see in the last few years. At the moment, in pre-season, when there’s no pressure, it seems to be going quite well.”

Man United will kick-start their 2022/23 Premier League campaign against Brighton on August 8 at Old Trafford.
