Ebonyi PDP guber candidate, ex-gov Egwu, others missing in INEC list

The leadership and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ebonyi State, were gripped by fear on Monday as the names of the National Assembly candidates, especially the former governor Sam Egwu and others are missing from the final list of the Independent National electoral commission, INEC.

Saga Gist reports that the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii and running mate Sen. Igwe Nwagu were also delisted from the INEC final updated list.

It was gathered that the three names of the senatorial candidates of the party, Senator Sam Egwu(Ebonyi North), Lazy Ogbee(Ebonyi Central) and Senator Ama Nnachi(Ebonyi South) were conspicuously missing from the updated list of INEC.

Also, the names of five out of the six house of representatives candidates of PDP, namely Idu Igariwey (Afikpo North/South), Jerry Obasi (Ọhaozara/Onicha/Ivo), Ogbonnia Nwanne (Ikwo/Ezza South), Chukwuma Ofoke (Abakaliki/Izzi), and Victor Aleke (Ebonyi/Ohaukwu) were also missing in the list.

Investigation revealed that only Mr Emmanuel Nwite, contesting for Ishielu/Ezza North Federal Constituency, is enlisted in the INEC updated list.

Similarly, one Henry Udeh was enlisted as the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, LP, for Ebonyi South instead of Mr Linus Okorie who emerged in a run-off primary conducted late last year.

The updated INEC list, signed by the secretary of the commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony and published on the commission’s website, noted that the updated list was pursuant to various court orders which the commission was bound to abide with.

The Ebonyi State legal adviser of PDP, Mudi Irhenede said he was not aware of the updated list and declined to comment on the matter when contacted.

He said:” You are just telling me about it right now. I am not aware. Let me find out.”

Also, Mr Abịa Onyike who is the spokesperson of the PDP governorship candidate, also declined comment on the new list as he was not aware of its existence.

Similarly, Mr Michael Ama Nnachi a senatorial candidate of the party for Ebonyi South, also said he has no knowledge of the updated list of the INEC but vowed to collaborate with other contestants to fix it.
