Police confirm killing of 2 in Kogi communal clash


 

Two persons were reportedly killed and over 70 houses torched in a violent communal clash between Oturpo-Ojile and Ochi-Ibadan communities in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The spokesman of the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed this to newsmen in Lokoja on Thursday.

Aya said the bloody clash between the two communities started on January 14 and lasted till the early hours of Monday, January 15.

Aside from houses, he noted that an unspecified number of vehicles, including motorcycles, tricycles and bicycles, were burnt in the clashes.

According to reports, trouble started when some villagers in Ochi-Ibadan allegedly killed a man from Oturpo-Ojile.

Saga Gist had earlier reported that the lawmaker representing Ankpa I in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Akus Lawal, told his colleagues on the floor of the house that one person died during the communal clash.
