Russia has initiated actions to protect its territory in reaction to the buildup by NATO, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova hinted at a briefing on Friday.
Responding to a German general’s remarks about NATO’s preparedness for war with Russia, Zakharova said Moscow had gotten used to such comments from officials of the organization.
The official accused European capitals of engaging in a “campaign to psychologically prepare their populations for conflict, using Russia as a scapegoat for internal problems.”
Stressing that Russia has no plans to attack NATO countries, Zakharova disclosed Moscow is implementing necessary measures “as the alliance is building up its military presence near Russian borders.”
The diplomat said if NATO strategists “are crazy enough to decide to attack Russia,” they should expect that the federation “will respond using every means available to us.”
On the situation in the Gaza Strip, Zakharova stated that a long-term settlement in the Middle East is impossible without the establishment of a Palestinian state.
She decried the death of tens of thousands of Palestinians since 2023 and highlighted the escalating tensions in the West Bank despite the signing of a peace deal.
According to Zakharova, an enduring peace and stability across the region can only be achieved through political and diplomatic steps based on established UN resolutions.
Affirming Russia’s position, she said without allowing an independent Palestinian state to coexist alongside Israel, “the much-anticipated peace in the Middle East cannot materialize.”
