Sanwo-Olu mourns death of Obafemi Awolowo’s grandson, Olusegun

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr Olusegun Awolowo, grandson of the late Western Region Premier and nationalist, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Sanwo-Olu described the former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council as a committed patriot who distinguished himself through vision, integrity, and dedication to national service.

In a condolence message released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile, the Governor extended his sympathy to the Awolowo family, noting that Olusegun Awolowo’s death was both unexpected and a significant loss to the nation.

“It is with profound sadness that I extend my condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the late Olusegun Awolowo. He was an exceptional Nigerian who served the nation with passion and purpose, and he remained a worthy representative of the Awolowo legacy,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Lagos State, I offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Awolowo family and all who mourn him. We pray that God grants them the strength to endure this painful loss and grants Olusegun Awolowo eternal rest.”
