The Lagos State Government, on Tuesday apprehended 20 individuals for street begging during an enforcement sweep across the Ikosi-Ketu and Mile 12 corridors.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the exercise reflects the administration’s resolve to maintain orderliness in public spaces and ensure they are used in a safe and responsible manner.
He explained that officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) carried out the operation around Ketu, Mile 12, Ikosi Road and the 7UP axis, targeting activities that obstruct movement and pose environmental risks.
“The operation, which led to the arrest of 20 people involved in street begging and related infractions, is part of our continuous mop-up efforts to protect the public, improve sanitation and prevent practices that disrupt traffic flow,” Wahab wrote on his X handle.
He noted that those arrested have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for profiling, with social welfare interventions to follow where necessary.
