The Nigerian Customs Service has identified and suspended an Authorized Economic Operator, AEO-certified company involved in the false declaration of consignment.
Customs disclosed this in a statement by its spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada on Thursday without mentioning the name of the defaulting company.
According to Maiwada, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, directed the immediate suspension of the company’s AEO status in accordance with the AEO Guidelines and the Customs Service Act, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Service stated that since commencement the AEO had led to the remittance of N362.97 billion into the Federation account.
Customs explained that its revenue collection surged from N1.222 trillion before AEO certification to N1.585 trillion as of October 2025.
“Reflecting a growth of N362.79 billion (29.68 percent) for the 51 AEO-certified entities as of 27 October 2025.
“Notwithstanding these gains, the Service identified a compliance breach involving a recently certified AEO company that engaged in false declaration of consignments contrary to program obligations.
“Consequently, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, MFR, directed the immediate suspension of the company’s AEO status in accordance with the AEO Guidelines, the WCO SAFE Framework of Standards, and Section 112 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023,” the statement reads
