The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, made the disclosure while briefing journalists in Abakaliki on Tuesday.
According to him, the arrest followed a joint security operation involving the Nigerian Army, the State Security Service, DSS, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
Ukandu further confirmed that two traditional rulers from Amasiri community in Afikpo Local Government Area, HRH Onyaidam Bassey and HRH Godfrey Oko-Obi, are currently in police custody in connection with the incident.
He added that 10 other suspects had earlier been arrested as investigations continue.
The police spokesperson explained that the killings were linked to a long-standing land dispute between Okporojo village in Oso Edda community and their Amasiri neighbours.
He recalled that suspected armed persons from Amasiri attacked Okporojo village on January 29, 2026, leading to the death of four persons and the destruction of houses and other property.
