US creates new portfolio for entertainment, art and culture in Nigeria

A new portfolio has been established by the United States (US) Consulate General for the entertainment, art and culture in Nigeria.

Mr Kelvin Krapf was appointed the Cultural Affairs Officer, United States Consulate General Lagos.

The soldier, fine artist, and centrifugal creator of “Day for Night and Night for Day and…” art piece, who resumed office weeks ago, was recently welcomed to Nigeria in an event organised by the US Consul General, John Bray.

Speaking at the event, Bray said the expanding influence of the Nigerian creative energies in entertainment, arts and culture necessitated the creation of a new office at the Lagos Consulate.

He disclosed that the new office would be used by the United States to galvanise the cultures of both countries, to inculcate the tradition of cultural and artistic exchanges between the US and Nigeria and to promote a healthy support system.

Known for creating works that try to merge boundaries and perceptions of illusion and reality and having led art exhibitions in South Africa and the United States, Krapf told Saturday Tribune that his work in Nigeria would also be composite.

He said he would be looking to work with ideas that “create the new from the old and the old from the new” in relation to the fine arts, film, music and culture of both countries.

Krapf said he would also be touring the country extensively as well as meetings with industry stakeholders in the coming days.
