Police ignored us after highway robbers attacked us in Ondo - Victims

Victims of highway robbery in the Ifira-Akoko axis in Akoko South East Local Government has disclosed how they were ignored by a team of policemen after their vehicle was attacked.

The victims who were on their way to Abuja from Lagos said their vehicle was waylaid on around 3:30pm and could not leave the spot until 8:00pm.

The passengers were attacked by the daredevil robbers on Tuesday while transiting through the state.

Speaking on behalf of the 17 passengers who were robbed at gunpoint, the driver of the 18-passenger bus, Agboola Kabiru, said the policemen who mounted roadblocks a few metres from the scene ignored them.

The driver added that it was operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as the Amotekun Corps who came to their rescue.

Kabiru, said “On our way from Lagos to Abuja after passing through Idoani in Ondo State where there is a bad portion of road before Isua, the robbers attacked our vehicle and I was forced to stop the vehicle.

“They shot sporadically into the air after which they collected the key from me and drove the bus into the bush.

“It was inside the bush that they began to rob us of our belongings. After they collected our possessions, they left us inside the bush and they drove our vehicles away.

“The funniest part was that there were policemen some meters from where we were stranded but they didn’t attend to us. We were robbed around 3:30pm and we left that spot around 8:00 pm.

“One of the Amotekun operatives went to help us get a rewire that will start the bus and the rest went inside the bush and they trailed the armed robbers. I didn’t even believe that the robbers can be caught.
