Ogun Immigration Unveils Expedited Passport Issuance System, Reduces Waiting Time to One Week

The Abeokuta Passport Office has introduced a revolutionary system that significantly reduces passport processing time to just one week after biometric data capture. 

This innovation, led by Passport Control Officer ACI Sunday Olubiyi, as gathered, aligns with directive of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and President Tinubu's renewed hope agenda on ensuring enhancement of public service delivery.

Traditionally, applicants seeking Nigerian passports have faced extended waiting periods, often enduring months of delays and uncertainty. 

However, the Abeokuta Passport Office has now redefined the process, making applicant's passport ready in a remarkably short period after their biometric data is captured.  

This improvement represents a monumental shift and a leap forward in efficiency which was emphasised by the Comptroller General of Immigration Service Kemi Nana Nandap.

Speaking with an applicant, Mr Akinbami Olawale, to confirm this, he expressed delight.

He said, "I was amazed at how quickly I received my passport.

"I submitted my application, and within 3 days, I had my passport in hand. It's unbelievable. All thanks to Ogun State immigration."

In the same vein, a teacher who is also an applicant, Mrs Adegbite Omowunmi, said, "This happened before. The last time my passport expired, I waited for almost two months before it was issued to me. 

"This is really a great improvement. We hope to see more of this in the country. "

They therefore described Assistant Comptroller S.O. Olubiyi, the new Passport Control Officer who assumed office in May 2024, as so instrumental in implementing this change within a short term of assuming office. 

His leadership is credited with spearheading this efficient system, which reflects a clear vision of improving public service delivery under the watch, guidance and expertise of the new Comptroller of Immigration Service of Ogun State Command, CIS Grace Olaitan Adeoye psc.

Under his guidance, the Abeokuta Passport Office has become a model of innovation and responsiveness in government services.

The expedited passport issuance process at the Abeokuta Passport Office was in direct response to the directives of Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who has emphasized the need for more efficient and citizen-centered service delivery within the Ministry of Interior. 

The initiative also resonates with President Tinubu's renewed hope agenda, which aims to enhance public sector efficiency and foster a more responsive government.

This development is therefore expected to set a precedent for other passport offices across the country, potentially leading to widespread improvements in the overall passport application and issuance process.
